The importance of making water-wise choices has become very apparent with the spread of climate change.
It is becoming more difficult to grow certain crops, maintain landscapes, and enjoy various recreational activities as water availability wavers and heat threatens popular crop growing. Across the country, people continue to make garden choices that can help conserve water. But why is this an important choice now?

I’d love some ideas for drought tolerant shrubs Zone 4-5
A great place to find new plants that are drought tolerant is to look under our new plant section and search by shrubs. Here you will find a number of new plants that are bred specifically to be drought tolerant like Butterfly Bush Butterfly Gold, Butterfly Bush Sparkler® Petite, Caryopteris Minigold,Beekeeper™ and lots more.
Sally, I find that Russian Sage grows very well in my zone 5b garden. It is a beautiful perennial shrub that benefits our pollinators! It requires very little water, about once a month and if it rains, then no watering needed. This shrub thrives on low water and performs excellent in the heat. It can be planted en masse for a nice row or grouping, or singular for a focal point. I grow Blue Jean Baby which is a more compact variety. It is deciduous and will be barren through winter.
