Coleus Pictures FAQs
Look for series bred for sun and heat tolerance, such as Premium Sun, Mezmerize™, Main Street®, and Talavera™. Premium Sun Coral Candy is an All-America Selections winner. Sun-tolerant coleus hold their color best when the soil stays evenly moist.
The Kong series is known for its extra-large leaves and grows best in shade. Many vegetative series, including Main Street®, Talavera™, and FlameThrower™, perform in both sun and shade. Check the plant label for the light each variety was bred for.
TrailBlazer™ (Glory Road and Road Trip), Great Falls® and ColorBlaze® have cascading habits made for hanging baskets, window boxes, and containers.
The MicroBlaze™ collection (Matchsticks and Spitfire) and Down Town® stay compact, at about 12 to 20 inches tall. The seed-grown Wizard series is a tidy type, around 12 to 14 inches tall.
The Volcanica™ collection is among the most vigorous, growing up to 36 inches tall and 28 inches wide. That makes it a good choice for the back of a border or large containers.
Popular seed series include Kong, Wizard, Premium Sun, and Mezmerize™. Most of the other varieties in this gallery are vegetative, grown from cuttings, and sold as plants at garden retailers.
